I know it seems like all I do is go see shows on broadway and this past week has been no exception. I saw Memphis which just won a Tony award to best musical, last night I saw Mary Poppins, and this weekend I saw Fences with Denzel Washington. I was tipped off earlier that I needed to wake up early to get in line for the cheap tickets to see that show. It was nuts! I am glad I woke up early or I definitely wouldn't have seen it. I got there at 6:45 and was 7th in line. The first person got there at 5:30. And by the time the doors opened at 10 there were more than 50 people in line. But I had some good company. I've noticed there is a group of the same people who tend to wake up early to wait for tickets and I seen some of them a few times while waiting in line.
Earlier last week I went on a shoot to a book publishing company for a story we are doing. Being there just made me want to read, which I honestly don't do that often. But I got a couple new books from there and I'm anxious to get into them. I tried to start reading one of the books while I was waiting in line for tickets, but I'm the kind of person who needs to read in complete silence and you aren't going to get that on the streets of NYC. There were so many people around, I think some dogs were sniffing for drugs in 3 cars across the street, and someone else was power sawing the concrete sidewalk. Needless to say, it was very distracting while I was trying to read.
I'm looking forward to this weekend. I have a couple of things planned with friends. I think the Ball State-ers living in NYC are going to get together and go out one night. I also want to go and see the Macy's fireworks on Sunday. And I'm sure I will fit another show in there somewhere. Plus I feel that there are a lot of touristy things I still need to do that I haven't done yet.
Tick-tock! Only a month and a half left here. I can't believe it's almost half over!
